Tips for Choosing a Contractor

It is important to select a licensed and insured general contractor for your remodel project.

Granite Makers is a licensed and insured professional general contractor and serves as a single point of contact and manages all aspects of your remodeling project.  This includes securing building permits, scheduling inspections, ordering building materials, and scheduling and supervising all trades required to complete your project.  We assume full responsibility for the integrity of workmanship at all stages to ensure your project satisfies all state and local building codes in all phases. Further we carry insurance so you are not exposed to significant financial risk in the event of personal injury or property damage.

Ask if the general contractor also provides design services.

Granite Makers is responsible for your home remodeling project, from the design concept all the way through construction and final completion of the project. From a homeowner perspective, general contractors that handle both design and build services provide you, the client, a single source of responsibility, authority and cost control for your remodeling project, from start to finish.  Be wary of contractors who do not discuss permits.

Using separate design services and putting it out for build bids involves multiple parties.  This approach could lead you, as a homeowner, to:

•   pay for a design which cannot realistically be built within your overall budget;

•   deal with multiple and often mutually exclusive parties to resolve discrepancies between the design and the plan/build specifications; and/or.
